Over one million people each year suffer from serious head injuries in the United States. Usually resulting in serious traumatic brain injuries, victims suffer trauma, brain damage, permanent disability, and even death.

- Motorcycle accidents
- Bicycle accidents
- Pedestrian accidents
- Construction accidents

Three Types of Serious Traumatic Brain Injury:
- Tearing occurs when the body collides suddenly with another object, causing tears in the brain tissue. A classic example is a baseball bat impacting the skull.
- Bruising occurs when soft brain tissue is forced against the hard, bony skull. Sensitive blood vessels can become ruptured, and blood escapes to parts of the brain unsuitable for fluid. Pressure erupts, causing internal damage to the brain – potentially, parts of the brain can shut down from the pressure.
- Swelling can be life-threatening. When the head is hit with a blunt object at great force, swelling ensues. It has nowhere to expand and relieve pressure, so it is forced against the skull, causing serious damage.
